“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Color: Royal Blue
Silk Type: Matka
Loom Type: Handloom
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: This saree is a Nilambari. The name comes from neel (blue) and ambar (sky), and it describes a blue saree woven with pale motifs that glow against it like stars in the night sky. Here the blue is a vibrant royal blue, set against motifs woven in white tussar silk thread. It’s woven in matka silk, so you can see the natural, hand-spun texture running through the blue, and it falls beautifully, settling on the body like a second skin. It suits formal and informal occasions, and it can be part of a wedding too: pujas, auspicious moments and any celebration. The body is solid Nilambari royal blue, with no motifs at all. The matka texture does all the work: fine slubs and natural streaks run through the silk, so the blue looks deep and alive instead of flat. Framed by the white jamdani borders, the plain body makes the whole saree look clean and striking. The pallu carries the richest jamdani work in the saree. A column of large, bold leaf motifs runs down the centre, each one detailed with fine veins. On both sides, the same scrolling floral vines with fan-shaped flowers frame them like a garden path. Everything is woven in white tussar silk thread using the needle technique. The pallu ends in stripes of white and rose gold, and the saree finishes in tassels and comes with a running blouse piece.
Border Details: The top edge is a fine line where matka and zari are woven together, giving a soft metallic gleam. Just inside it runs a broad jamdani border, woven with the needle technique in white tussar silk thread. The motifs are a flowing floral vine that curls and scrolls along the length of the saree, with fan-shaped flower motifs set between the curves, like a garden climbing along the edge. The border runs along the top and bottom of the saree.
Special Techniques: Matka silk. Matka is made from the shorter silk fibres left after the long filament has been reeled from the cocoon. These fibres are spun by hand, not by machine, which gives matka its slubby, textured surface. No two matka sarees look exactly alike. Yarn-dyed. The royal blue is dyed into the thread before weaving begins, not added to the finished cloth. Every thread carries its own colour, so the blue stays even through the fabric. Needle jamdani in tussar thread. As each row of the matka base is woven, the weaver counts the warp threads and uses a fine needle to place the white tussar silk thread only where the motif needs it, then beats the row down and moves on. There’s no printing and no machine. The design is carried in the weaver’s memory, motif by motif. Tussar thread has a soft, natural sheen, so the white motifs glow gently against the textured blue rather than looking flat. The Nilambari tradition. Nilambari sarees are best known from Banaras, where they’re traditionally woven with full jamdani patterning. This one has been woven in West Bengal, home of the needle jamdani tradition, bringing that Bengal technique to the classic blue-sky design. The zari. The zari on the edge and pallu is tested zari: a silk core wrapped in metallic thread, checked for quality and consistency. It isn’t real gold or silver; “tested” refers to the verified quality of the zari. Silk Mark. The saree carries the Silk Mark, the Government of India’s certification that it’s pure silk. It’s independent confirmation of the fabric, not just the seller’s word.
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture."

We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
