“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Color: Onion Pink
Silk Type: Matka
Loom Type: Handloom
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: This saree comes in a soft onion pink, and the sheerness of muslin silk makes the whole saree look light, airy and almost dreamy. It’s a skirt-border saree. In Bengal, “skirt border” means one border is much broader than the other and sits along the bottom of the saree, so when it’s draped, the lower half looks like a full, decorated skirt. Here that broad border is filled entirely with needle jamdani. The saree is sophisticated and elegant. Pick any occasion, and it simply works. Above the skirt border, the other half of the saree is a calmer field of soft onion pink, scattered with small flower motifs. Each one is a delicate bud-like bloom woven in shades of fuchsia, pink and gold. It’s an unusual, graceful flower shape, and every one is woven by hand using the needle technique of jamdani. They’re spaced generously, so the sheer muslin stays light while the little flowers add colour and charm. The pallu is grand. The garden from the skirt border carries on here and spreads across the whole pallu: golden zari branches, white leaves, pink flowers and birds in fuchsia and peach, woven with real intricacy. Every bird and flower is crisp and clear against the sheer base. The pallu ends in fine white stripes and tassels, and the saree comes with an attached blouse piece.
Border Details: A peach edging runs along the top and bottom of the saree, balancing the soft pink and framing it neatly. The star of the saree is the skirt border, the broad band of jamdani along the bottom half. Walking past it feels like walking through a garden. Golden zari branches wind across it, carrying leaves woven in white silk thread and flowers in shades of pink, with little birds in fuchsia and peach perched among the branches. It’s dense, detailed work, and it covers the entire length of the saree.
Special Techniques: Muslin silk. Muslin is an extremely fine, open weave, the same family as the famous Bengal muslins. Here it’s woven with silk yarn, which gives it its sheerness, lustre and soft fall. Yarn-dyed. The onion pink is dyed into the thread before weaving begins, not added to the finished cloth. Every thread carries its own colour, so the shade stays even through the sheer fabric. Needle jamdani on sheer muslin. Every motif in this saree, from the skirt border and the pallu to the small flowers on the body, is woven by hand on the loom. As each row of the muslin is woven, the weaver counts the warp threads and uses a fine needle to place the white thread, the pink thread or the golden zari only where that part of the motif belongs. Then the row is beaten down and the next one begins. There’s no printing, no machine and no drawn guide; the whole garden is carried in the weaver’s memory, row by row. Why it’s so challenging. On sheer muslin there’s nowhere to hide a mistake. A loose thread or an uneven petal shows from both sides of the cloth. The skirt border alone holds hundreds of leaves, flowers and birds, and a bird is one of the hardest jamdani motifs to weave, because its curved body, beak, wing and tail have to be built from straight threads, one row at a time. The weaver also switches between white thread, several pinks and zari inside each small area. Covering half the saree’s length and the whole pallu this way takes many weeks of patient, skilled work. That time and precision is what makes the finished saree look this effortless.
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture."
