“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Silk Type: Mulberry
Loom Type: Handloom
Purity: Silk mark certified
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: This is a handloom Muppagam — a tricolor saree in pure mulberry silk, woven in Kanchipuram. And this one is the textbook definition of what a traditional Muppagam should be. It's a cream base carrying a fine kattam (small-check) pattern, framed by a bottle green border on top and a deep maroon border at the bottom, with twin zari lines running along each. The whole thing feels almost slow-motion when it moves — pristine, auspicious, the kind of saree that makes you stand a little taller when you drape it. This is a classic, all-time-favorite color story, and it's made for the big traditional moments: pujas, rituals, weddings, every auspicious occasion. Pure mulberry silk gives it that signature soft glide and gentle glow, and the mix of the delicate kattam, the green-and-maroon borders, and the zari makes it feel complete and wholesome — nothing missing, nothing extra.
The body is cream, and that softness is what holds the whole saree together. It's woven in a small kattam — fine checks running across the cloth. The checks are subtle enough that they never look busy or overcrowded; instead they sit seamlessly into the base and carry the eye across the saree without any one part shouting over another. Everything stays in balance — that's the quiet sophistication of a good kattam.
The pallu carries beautiful zari bands that round the saree off and make it feel whole. Like the rest of the piece, nothing here overpowers anything else — the bands add richness without fighting the borders or the body. It's the finishing touch that ties the look together, and it comes with a running blouse piece to complete the set.
Border Details:
Because this is a Muppagam, it's built on three colors — that's literally what the name points to, a tricolor saree where the two borders deliberately contrast each other and the body. Here the top border is bottle green with fine silk zari worked in clean linear lines, running end to end. The bottom border is deep maroon, carrying the same twin zari-line pattern. Think of the two borders as a frame around a painting: the cream body is the canvas, and the green and maroon edges give it structure and a solid, grounded finish so the saree reads rich rather than plain.
Special Techniques: This is a 100% handloom pure mulberry silk Kanchipuram and it carries a Silk Mark, the certification that confirms it's genuine natural mulberry silk.
What makes a Muppagam special is how it's built, and this one is made using the korvai technique. Here's the simple way to picture korvai: in most sarees the body and borders are the same warp, so a contrast border is hard to pull off cleanly. In korvai, the border and the body are woven with separate sets of threads and then locked together right on the loom — the border threads and body threads are physically interlooped at the join, by hand, so the two colors meet in one crisp, strong line instead of being stitched on later. It's slow, skilled work, often needing two people working in coordination at the join.
A Muppagam takes korvai a step further. Instead of one contrast border, you've got three color sections in a single saree — bottle green at the top, cream through the body, deep maroon at the bottom — which means more korvai joins and more precision than a standard two-tone Kanchipuram. That extra difficulty is exactly why a tricolor Muppagam is considered such a prized, elaborate weave. And the zari isn't added on top afterward — it's carried through on the loom as the borders and pallu are woven, so the design is part of the fabric's structure.
Season: All seasons
Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom.
Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
