“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Motifs/Patterns: This Kanchipuram is a celebration of colour. The body is covered in small checks of pastel blue, aqua, sunshine yellow, mauve, peach and mint, each one outlined by an ultra-thin line of golden zari. Framing it all is a deep navy border with broad zari bands. The navy works like a dark frame around a stained-glass window: it holds all that colour together and makes every shade glow brighter. The saree balances two worlds. The pastels keep it fresh and playful, while the navy and gold keep it formal and polished. It looks just as right at a morning ceremony as it does at a night reception. It's a superb piece to gift someone close for their wedding or any special moment, and a standout addition to a wedding trousseau, a reception, a party or a high-stakes award function. The body is the masterpiece of this saree. It's a multicolour kattam (checks) in soft pastel blue, aqua, yellow, mauve, peach and mint, laid out so that no two neighbouring squares are the same shade. Running between every square is an ultra-thin line of golden zari, so fine that it doesn't compete with the colours. Instead it glows quietly in the background, like light catching the edges of tiles. Up close, you see each colour and every gold line. From a distance, it all blends into a bright, joyful shimmer. This pattern covers the entire length of the body. The pallu returns to the deep navy and is woven with alternating zari bands: broad panels of dense golden zari, narrower bands of fine pinstripes, and sections of navy with thin gold lines in between. It's structured and graphic rather than floral, and that's deliberate. After a body full of colour, a calm navy-and-gold pallu balances the whole saree. The pallu ends in tassels, and the saree comes with a contrasting blouse piece.
Border Details: A deep navy border runs along the top and bottom of the saree from end to end. It carries broad golden zari bands, worked in a fine repeating pattern of oval medallions and scalloped edging that you can see clearly even from a distance. The border is joined to the body using korvai, the traditional Kanchipuram interlocking technique, so the line where navy meets the multicolour checks stays clean and sharp along the full six yards. That solid navy is what keeps such a colourful body looking elegant rather than busy.
Special Techniques: This is a 100% handloom pure mulberry silk Kanchipuram, and it carries a Silk Mark — the certification that confirms it's genuine natural silk, not a blend or an art-silk imitation. The silk. This is a 100% handloom Kanchipuram in pure mulberry silk, woven in four-ply construction: four fine silk threads twisted together into every strand before weaving. Think of four thin strands twisted into one rope. Each thread is fine, but together they're strong. That's what gives a Kanchipuram its body, its rich drape and its long life. How multicolour kattam is woven. The checks aren't printed. They're built into the cloth by colour planning on the loom. First, the warp (the thousands of lengthwise threads) is laid out in narrow stripes of different colours: a band of blue, then yellow, then mauve, and so on, repeating across the width. Then, as the weaver works, they change the colour of the weft (the crosswise thread) at the same fixed intervals. Where a coloured warp stripe crosses a coloured weft stripe, a check is born. Sometimes the two colours are the same and the square comes out pure, like the bright yellow ones. Sometimes they're different and the threads blend, so a yellow warp crossing a blue weft gives a soft green. That's why the body shows more shades than were actually dyed. The weaver is mixing colour the way a painter mixes on a palette, only with thread. Getting it right means every colour change in the weft has to land on exactly the right row, across six yards, or the grid drifts and the squares stop lining up. The golden zari kattam. The thin gold lines are woven in the same way. At the boundary of every check, the weaver places a fine zari thread in the warp, and passes a zari thread across in the weft at the matching spacing. Where they cross, the gold grid forms. Because the lines are so thin, there's very little room for error. One misplaced zari pick shows up instantly as a broken or wobbly line. The korvai border. The navy border and the multicolour body are woven at the same time, each with its own shuttle. Where they meet, the weaver interlocks the two threads by hand on every single row. This is korvai, the signature of traditional Kanchipuram weaving. Because the border is woven into the body rather than attached, it can never separate, however many years the saree is worn. It usually takes two weavers at the loom working in rhythm. The zari. The zari is tested zari: a silk core wrapped in metallic thread, checked for quality and consistency. It isn't real gold; "tested" refers to the verified quality of the zari. The silk core keeps it soft and flexible, so the broad border bands and the zari pallu drape smoothly instead of standing stiff, and it holds its glow over the years instead of tarnishing the way imitation zari does. Time. Dyeing yarn in many separate colours, laying out the striped warp, changing the weft colour on exactly the right rows, placing every zari line of the kattam and interlocking the korvai border all take time. A multicolour kattam Kanchipuram like this is among the more demanding pieces to weave, and it takes several weeks of skilled work.

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture.
