Motifs/Patterns: Ivory and royal purple. One of the most striking pairings you can put on a Kanchipuram, and one you see far less often than the traditional red or maroon — which is exactly what makes it feel special.
The ivory is warm rather than stark, with a golden undertone running beneath the surface, and fine gold zari woven through it in stripes and patterns that lift it further. Against that soft, luminous ground, the purple arrives with real force: deep, saturated, jewel-toned, and loaded with gold. The contrast is dramatic without being harsh, because the warm ivory and the warm gold hold the purple in place.
The feel is everything a Kanchipuram should be. Pure mulberry silk with genuine weight and body, falling in deep sculptural pleats and holding its shape as you move. The lustre is the part that photographs cannot fully carry — it is a deep, liquid sheen that comes from the fibre itself, shifting between light and shadow across every fold. Regal is the only honest word for it.

The body is ivory, and it is not a plain field.
Fine gold zari is woven through it along the entire length in stripes and patterned bands — not one simple band laid across the fabric, but a proper woven design with rhythm and structure to it. Each row catches light slightly differently, so the surface never goes flat.
The result is a soft golden glow that sits over the whole ivory ground. As you move, that glow shifts, and the warm undertone in the ivory comes forward. It's the quietest section of the saree and the one draped closest to the face — which is precisely why it is worked with restraint rather than heaviness.
The pallu is the show-stopper.
It is deep purple, filled with grand, dense zari weaving — large ornamental medallions, layered bands, and repeating motifs packed across the full width. This is where the greatest quantity of zari goes and where the weaver spends the most time, and you feel the difference in weight the moment you lift it.
Thrown over the shoulder, the pallu changes the entire register of the saree. Everything else has been building toward it: the quiet ivory body, the framing border, and then this. It magnifies the whole look.
The saree comes with a blouse piece carrying zari weaving throughout its body, finished with its own border — so you can stitch a blouse that matches the saree's richness without needing any added work.
Border Details: The border is broad, deep purple, and worked heavily in silk-based zari from edge to edge.
Inside it sits dense, layered gold work: rows of ornamental blocks, geometric bands, and floral motifs repeating along the full length. Very little of the purple base is left uncovered — this is a border where the gold does most of the talking. It runs unbroken along both the top and bottom of the saree, framing the ivory body on both sides.
Because the ivory body is light and the border is dark and gold-loaded, the two sections define each other. The border gives the saree its structure and its weight, and it is the first thing that reads from across a room.
Special Techniques: A Kanchipuram is not one piece of fabric. It is three, joined by hand while still on the loom, and that is the whole reason it costs what it costs.
The silk. Pure mulberry silk, carrying the Silk Mark — the Central Silk Board's certification of 100% natural silk. Kanchipuram uses a heavier multi-ply yarn, several filaments twisted together into one thicker thread, which is where the weight, the fall, the deep lustre and the forty-year lifespan all come from.
The zari. Tested zari, silk-based — a fine metallic wire drawn out, flattened, and wound tightly around a silk core thread. Picture a ribbon wrapped around a pencil, at a scale you'd need a magnifier to see the turns. Not the flat plastic film used in imitation work. Real metal zari glows from inside the weave and shifts with the light; imitation glitters hard and flat from every angle. On a saree carrying this much gold, that difference is the entire look.
Korvai — the contrast border. The ivory body and the purple border are woven from separate warps in different colours. Where they meet, the weaver interlocks the threads by hand, one against the next, down the full length of the saree. This needs three shuttles working together and, traditionally, two people at the loom. The proof of a true korvai is the join itself — run your finger along it and you'll feel a fine ridge. That ridge is a genuine seam of interlocked silk, not a border printed or woven flat into a single fabric.

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting.
