Motifs/Patterns: Some sarees walk into a room shouting. This one doesn't need to. It's a deep, moody play of black and olive across the body, cut through with fine pinstripe zari, and framed by a rich contrast red border that carries all the gold. The effect is quietly powerful — the kind of saree that makes you look chic and composed rather than dressed-up, and lets you stay the focus instead of the outfit.
That's exactly its personality. It's a formal saree in the truest sense — one you can carry through an entire event without a single adjustment, and without ever overpowering the occasion. It sits in that rare sweet spot: understated, but unmistakably expensive.
And here's the part you feel the moment you pick it up. It's pure mulberry silk, so it's soft, it's fluid, it moves like water and drapes without a fight. That easy, liquid fall is the real charm of a Kanchipuram — weight and richness that still feel effortless on the body.
What makes it special is that it's a revival. This particular design — the body pattern and especially that border — was being woven around a hundred years ago and had quietly faded out. Bringing it back on the loom is what gives this piece its soul; you're wearing a design that had almost been forgotten.
The body is where the real craft hides. It's a tight black-and-olive threadwork pattern with fine pinstripe zari running through it — a dense, precise micro-weave, not the easy broad checks you usually see. Look closely and you can see how exact every line is; that precision is the whole point. This kind of weaving is slow, demanding, and unforgiving, which is exactly why it looks so grounded and refined. It's the quiet backbone that makes the bright border pop.
The pallu carries a deep red base laid with beautiful golden zari stripes — clean, elegant, and made for a formal event. Nothing fussy, nothing loud, just gold on red doing its job perfectly. It finishes with tassels at the edge, and the saree comes with a blouse piece that carries the same golden bands, so the whole look ties together.
Border Details: The border is the revival at its finest. Golden zari runs along the edge in dual bands — two clean lines of gold that instantly lift the dark body. Layered with that is a red threadwork temple pattern running along both the top and bottom of the saree. And holding it all together is a bottle green dual-shaded edging that outlines the border and covers the saree beautifully. Gold, red, and green against black — it's a hundred-year-old idea that still looks completely current.
Special Techniques: The magic of this saree is in that tight body cut. Instead of the usual wide, roomy checks, the black and deep olive threadwork is woven into a very fine, very tight grid, with a zari line running alongside — a pinstripe running through a micro-check. Getting that grid to stay perfectly square and even, line after line, thread after thread, is painstaking work. The tighter and finer the pattern, the more precise the weaver has to be and the longer every inch takes on the loom. That's why this isn't a quick weave — the intricacy you see is time made visible.
The revival border is built using the traditional korvai technique — where the contrast red-and-gold border is woven separately and locked into the black body by hand, interlocking the two colours at the join rather than simply running one colour across. It's the classic Kanchipuram method that lets a saree carry a bold contrast border like this without a single printed or stitched shortcut, and it's a big part of why korvai Kanchipurams are so prized.
The saree carries a Silk Mark, your assurance that it's genuine, pure silk.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
