Motifs/Patterns: This Garhchola pulls off a colour combination that's a little unexpected and all the better for it. The body sits in a warm mud tone — an earthy, sandy brown — while the border space and pallu carry a deep, vibrant navy blue. It's a bold pairing: the cool, rich navy framing the soft, grounded mud shade, and somehow the two play off each other perfectly. The earthy centre keeps it from feeling loud, and the navy gives it depth and drama. The fabric itself feels gorgeous in hand — featherlight, cool, and satin-smooth, with that quiet sheen Gaji silk is known for. Because it's so lightweight and breathable, it's a great pick for summer, and versatile enough for a wedding trousseau, parties, functions, or any ritual. It carries across occasions and across ages with ease.
The body is where the mud colour shines. It's filled with the classic Garhchola layout — a grid of boxes formed by fine zari lines, with delicate bandhani tied inside each one. Those tiny white tied-and-dyed dots cluster into florals and motifs within every box, and against the warm mud base they stand out cleanly without being harsh. This box-and-bandhani structure is the heart of a traditional Garhchola, and it sits beautifully on this earthy ground.
The pallu is grand and easily the showpiece of the saree. It shifts into deep navy blue, packed with bandhani motifs flowing in bold vertical and diagonal patterns, and finished with broad golden zari banding that gives it real weight and richness. It ends with pretty tassels at the edge for that final flourish. Denser and more dramatic than the body, the pallu is what makes this drape feel truly special.
The saree also comes with a blouse piece featuring a bandhani border to complete the set.
Border Details: This is a borderless saree — there's no separately woven border running along the edges. Instead, the navy blue has been worked into the border space, framing the mud-toned body with a band of deep colour. The effect is clever: it reads like a border and gives that finished, defined edge, but it's really the dyeing doing the work, not a separate woven strip. It's the look of a border without an actual one, which keeps the whole drape soft and seamless.
Special Techniques: Gaji silk is a pure silk, traditionally woven from mulberry silk — the same fine, lustrous fibre used in most high-quality Indian silks — and made in a satin weave. In a satin weave, each silk thread floats over several others before tucking under just one; fewer crossover points means more unbroken silk lying flat on the surface, and that smooth, light-catching surface is what gives Gaji its signature glossy, slippery, satin-like feel.
A Garhchola is built in stages, and it's really two crafts joined into one. First comes the weaving: artisans weave the silk on a handloom and run fine gold or silver zari threads through it to form that signature checkered grid. Then comes the bandhani — the tie-and-dye work. Skilled hands pinch thousands of tiny points of fabric and tie each one tightly with thread. When the cloth is dyed, the dye can't reach the tied spots, so when the threads are pulled out, those crisp white dots appear inside every box. The tying-dyeing-untying cycle is repeated for each colour, which is how a piece like this gets its navy framing and mud body to sit together so cleanly. Every dot, every motif is done entirely by hand.
This is why a Garhchola takes so long. Setting up the grid alone takes time, and a double-checkered pattern can take well over a week just to weave before any dyeing starts. Add in the layered tying and dyeing for each colour, and a fully hand-tied bandhani Garhchola can take up to three months or more to finish — and that slow, painstaking handwork is exactly what makes each piece feel like a small treasure.

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
