Motifs/Patterns: This aqua green Gaji silk Garhchola is a stunner. The colour sits in that sweet spot between blue and green — a bright, jewel-toned aqua that catches light. The middle carries a soft ombré, slipping from a deeper aqua at the edges to a lighter, almost glowing shade in the center. Think of it like the sea shifting shades as it gets shallower. The fabric itself feels like liquid — featherlight, cool to the touch, and satin-smooth as it slides through your hands. It's the kind of saree that works for a bridal trousseau, wedding festivities, festivals, or rituals, and it suits every age. Versatile and easy to love.
A quick word on why it feels so smooth: Gaji silk is woven in a satin weave, where the threads float over several others before tucking under. Fewer interruptions on the surface means more unbroken silk catching the light, which is exactly what gives it that glassy, slippery finish.
The body is a grid of Garhchola boxes formed by fine zari lines, and inside each box sits delicate bandhani work — those tiny tied-and-dyed dots clustered into florals and motifs. This box-with-bandhani layout is the signature of a traditional Garhchola, and it's the heart of what makes this saree what it is. The white and occasional yellow bandhani pops cleanly against the aqua, almost like little patterns drawn inside neat windows.
The pallu is massive and easily the showpiece. It's loaded with zari patterning and bandhani motifs running in bold vertical and diagonal flows, denser and more dramatic than the body. It finishes with pretty tassels at the edge, giving it that final flourish. The saree also comes with a blouse piece featuring a bandhani border to complete the set.
Border Details: There is no separate border here — it's a borderless saree. Instead of framing the edges, the Garhchola pattern runs across the entire fabric, so nothing feels lopsided or heavy on one side. The design carries itself evenly from end to end, which gives the whole piece a balanced, all-over richness rather than relying on a defined edge to do the work.
Special Techniques: Gaji silk is a pure silk, traditionally woven from mulberry silk — the same fine, lustrous fibre used in most high-quality Indian silks — and made in a satin weave. In a satin weave, each silk thread floats over several others before tucking under just one — fewer crossover points means more unbroken silk lying flat on the surface, and that smooth, light-catching surface is what gives Gaji its signature glossy, slippery, satin-like feel.
A Garhchola is built in stages, and it's really two crafts joined into one. First comes the weaving: artisans weave the silk on a handloom and run fine gold or silver zari threads through it to form that signature checkered grid. Then comes the bandhani — the tie-and-dye work. Skilled hands pinch thousands of tiny points of fabric and tie each one tightly with thread. When the cloth is dyed, the dye can't reach the tied spots, so when the threads are pulled out, those crisp white dots appear inside every box. For a piece like this, with the ombré shading, the cloth is dyed in stages — lighter tones first, building up to the deeper aqua — so the colour transitions smoothly across the body. Every dot, every motif, every cluster is done entirely by hand.
This is why a Garhchola takes so long. Setting up the grid alone takes time, and a double-checkered pattern can take well over a week just to weave before any dyeing starts. Add in the layered tying and dyeing for each colour, and a fully hand-tied bandhani Garhchola can take up to three months or more to finish. That patience is exactly what you're holding — a piece that can't be rushed, which is what makes each one feel like a small treasure.

Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
