“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Color: Mauve
Silk Type: Mulberry silk
Loom Type: Handloom
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: This saree comes in a beautiful mauve, covered from end to end in intricate white bandhani and finished with a band of golden zari at the end. It’s woven in pure gaji silk with a satin weave, so it feels smooth, silky and soft against the skin, and the fall is effortless. It suits formal and informal gatherings, parties and pujas, and it makes a lovely part of a wedding trousseau. The body is covered in intensive bandhani: large circles built from rings of tiny white dots, some inside one another like ripples on water, with smaller circles scattered between them. Every dot comes from tying and dyeing by hand, and because each tie is placed so carefully, the circles come out round, even and precise across the full length of the saree. The pallu is a grand take on bandhani. Columns of zigzags and diamond shapes run down its length, with a large starburst motif at the centre, all in fine white dots. It ends in a band of tested golden zari, and the saree finishes with handmade tassels made from pure handloom tissue, with zardozi work and pearls. The saree comes with a contrasting fuchsia pink blouse piece.
Border Details: A sleek, muted gold Marodi-inspired border runs along the entire length of the saree. It’s attached once the saree is complete and lined with a double layer of pure handloom tissue for a neat, soft finish. The border is slim and elegant, and it frames the mauve without taking attention away from the bandhani.
Special Techniques: Gaji silk and the satin weave. Gaji silk is a pure silk from Gujarat, woven on the handloom in a satin weave. In a satin weave, the weaver lets each thread float over several threads before going under one, instead of going over and under every single thread. Those long floats sit flat on the surface, like brushed hair lying in one direction, which is what gives gaji silk its smooth, glossy finish and soft fall. How the bandhani is done. Bandhani is a tie-and-dye technique. Artisans pinch tiny points of the silk, often with the help of a fingernail, and tie each one tightly with thread, following a marked design. Once every point is tied, the saree is dyed. The tied points resist the dye and stay white. When the threads are opened, thousands of tiny white dots form the circles, zigzags and starburst you see. The time it takes. A design this dense means thousands of separate ties, each done by hand. The circles in the body and the detailed pallu make it intricate and slow work, and a bandhani saree like this can take several weeks to complete, from tying to dyeing to opening every knot. The zari. The gold zari at the end of the pallu is tested zari: a silk core wrapped in metallic thread, checked for quality and consistency. It isn’t real gold; “tested” refers to the verified quality of the zari. The handmade tassels. Each tassel is made entirely by hand. The balls are wrapped in pure handloom tissue and finished with zardozi work (raised embroidery in metallic thread) and pearls.
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture."
