Motifs/Patterns: A warm ivory tussar with a natural golden tint sitting underneath the surface — the colour tussar silk comes out of the cocoon with, not something dyed on afterwards. Against that golden ground sit two contrast colours doing all the work: peacock green and mustard, in fine threadwork, with muted golden zari running through the border and the pallu. The zari is deliberately soft rather than bright, so nothing about this saree shouts. The feel is textured and dry to the touch — tussar has a natural slub and a slight body to it — yet the saree stays light and drapes with real ease. If you had to define elegance in one saree, this would be it. The Gachi does its job quietly and the jamdani does the rest.
This belongs to your Durga Puja mornings above everything else. It also sits beautifully at pujas and rituals, at family celebrations, festival lunches, and any daytime occasion where you want to look considered rather than dressed-up. It is the kind of saree people remember afterwards without being able to say exactly why.
Against the golden-tinted tussar ground, the body carries flower and geometric motifs in peacock green and mustard threadwork.
The placement is what makes it interesting. Around the chest and upper drape, the motifs sit clustered together — grouped closer, giving that section more presence exactly where the eye lands first. From there they open out and scatter across the rest of the saree, spaced at wider intervals, covering the length evenly without ever crowding it.
The effect is that the saree looks fuller where it needs to and quieter everywhere else. Nothing feels repetitive, and nothing feels empty. Small squares in blue and mustard sit between the larger floral motifs, so the surface always has something happening on it — just never too much.
The pallu opens with larger flower motifs — bigger versions of what runs through the body, worked in golden zari with peacock green and mustard threadwork. This is the transition: the body's motifs growing in scale as the pallu begins.
Then the pallu turns dense. Heavy zari work fills the width, layered with contrast threadwork in the same green and mustard. And here is the detail that matters most: the zari is never stark. It is kept muted and warm, so it sits with the tussar and the thread colours instead of overpowering them. A brighter gold would have flattened everything else out.
The pallu ends in tassels, and the saree comes with a running blouse piece.
Border Details: The border here is a genuinely different take, and it's the section worth looking at closely.
It has been done entirely using the needle technique of jamdani — not woven as a conventional border strip. The base is a fine dotted design, each dot placed individually by needle, which gives the border a soft, textured, almost hand-drawn quality. You will not come across many borders built this way.
Sitting within that dotted ground are flower motifs in mustard and peacock green, and running along both the top and bottom is a fully woven flower motif that frames the whole thing. Two techniques, one border — needle-worked dots for texture, woven flowers for definition.
Special Techniques: What Gachi Tussar is. Tussar is wild silk, from moths that live on forest trees rather than farmed mulberry. Gachi is the finest grade of it — smoother, more lustrous, and far more even than ordinary tussar, while keeping the natural golden tint and the characteristic dry, textured hand. It is the reason this saree feels rich without any dye doing the work. The saree carries the Silk Mark, the Central Silk Board's certification of 100% natural silk.
The zari. The golden zari used here is tested zari — real metallic thread wound tightly around a silk core, like a ribbon wrapped around a pencil at a scale you'd need a magnifier to see. Not the flat plastic film used in imitation work. That construction is exactly why the gold reads soft and warm rather than glassy: real metal zari glows from inside the weave and shifts with the light, while imitation zari sits on the surface with a hard, uniform glitter. On a natural golden tussar ground, a plastic zari would have looked cheap and killed the whole effect.
The needle technique of jamdani. Every motif on this saree — every flower, every dot in the border, every scattered butee — is made by hand with a needle. There is no jacquard, no punch card, no pre-set pattern. After each row of ground weft, the weaver counts the warp threads, inserts the coloured thread by needle exactly where the design needs it, and beats the row down. Then does it again. Working from memory, one motif at a time, across the entire length.
The colour changes. Using two contrast hues — peacock green and mustard — plus zari means the weaver switches threads constantly within a single row. Each colour is a separate insertion. Every change is a hand movement. This is what multiplies the hours: a two-colour jamdani takes far longer than a single-colour one, and the clustered chest section takes longer still because the motifs sit closer together.
It is slow, counted, unhurried work, and it cannot be sped up.

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting.
