Motifs/Patterns: This is a handloom Muppagam — a pure mulberry silk Kanchipuram saree, woven in the classic tricolor style. A Muppagam is built on three colors: here the body is a deep navy blue, the top border is olive green, and the bottom border is a deep maroon. That three-way split across broad borders is exactly what defines a Muppagam. Running through it are beautiful silk zari layers — three lines of zari along the top and bottom, with zari carving on the body too (more on that below). It carries a rich, well-finished pallu, and it has that signature Kanchipuram sheen. This is the perfect occasion saree — made for weddings, functions, rituals, dinner parties, and a natural part of a bridal trousseau. It manages to be subtle and deeply traditional at the same time, classy and demure, and it looks elegant across every kind of celebratory occasion.
The body is a deep navy blue with silk zari carving worked across it. This isn't a plain zari line — there's an actual pattern built using the zari, which gives the body real depth and detail. It catches the light softly and stands out without overwhelming the rest of the saree.
The pallu carries very intricate zari work. The zari here is beautifully muted — there's no harsh or gaudy shine to it, just a soft, refined glow. That restraint is what makes it stand out and look so elegant. It also comes with a running blouse piece in a matching tone to complete the set.
Border Details: The saree has two distinct borders, and this is where the Muppagam character really shows. The top border is olive green with silk zari work done in three layers. The bottom border is deep maroon, again with three separate layers of zari lining. Both run completely end to end. The play of olive against maroon, framing the navy body, is what makes a Muppagam so striking — three rich tones that could clash, but instead sit together in perfect balance and look beautifully intentional.
Special Techniques: A quick word on the zari used here: this is silk zari, not real metallic zari. Traditional "real" zari is a metal thread — fine gold or silver-toned wire wrapped around a thread core. Silk zari, instead, uses a silk-based thread to create that shimmer, so you get the decorative zari effect with a softer, more muted glow and a lighter feel, without actual metal. That's exactly why the shine here stays gentle rather than flashy.
What makes a Muppagam special is the tricolor structure itself. Most sarees carry a single body color with matching or paired borders. A Muppagam breaks that rule — the top border, the body, and the bottom border are each woven in a different color, three distinct sections coming together in one saree. Here that's olive green at the top, deep navy blue through the body, and deep maroon at the bottom. Achieving three clean color zones in a single handwoven piece takes far more planning and precision on the loom than a single-tone saree, which is exactly why a tricolor Muppagam is considered more elaborate and prized.
The silk zari is woven in as the saree is made, not added afterward — the zari thread is carried through on the loom to build the borders, the body carving, and the pallu patterns, so the design is part of the fabric's structure rather than something applied on top.
Season: All seasons
Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom.
Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
