“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Color: Black and Red
Silk Type: Mulberry
Loom Type: Handloom
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: A deep black base set against a solid, saturated red — one of the strongest colour pairings in Indian textile, and one that never dates. The black gives the saree its depth and lets every colour placed on it come forward; the red frames it and holds it together. Between them run fine silver-white stripes and the ikat motifs in mustard, royal blue and red, each with that soft, blurred edge that only tie-and-dye can produce. The feel is pure mulberry silk — smooth, cool to the touch, with a quiet lustre rather than a shine, and a drape that falls close and stays put. Sophisticated in a way that reads as regal rather than loud. This is a saree you can wear almost anywhere without thinking about it. It works beautifully as workwear if sarees are your everyday, and it moves just as easily into rituals, pujas, evening parties, dinners, and family functions. Black and red is never the wrong answer. The black base is broken by fine silver-white stripes running along the length, and between them sit the ikat motifs in mustard, royal blue and red. The fish is the recurring motif here — worked in mustard, in royal blue, in red, repeating across the entire saree in an alternating rhythm so no two adjacent motifs are the same colour. Around them sit smaller ikat elements: diamonds, florals, and geometric fragments in the same palette. What makes this saree unusual is that this level of multi-colour detail is genuinely hard to achieve in ikat. Every one of those colours had to be dyed into the yarn before weaving began, at exactly the right point along its length, so that the fish appears in the right place, in the right colour, when the cloth is finally woven. A four-colour ikat with figurative motifs is a completely different order of difficulty from a simple two-colour geometric one. This is not a pattern you come across often, and once you know how it is made, it's difficult to look at casually. The pallu is broad and generous, worked on the same black base. It carries the fish motifs at full scale, done in the tie-and-dye ikat technique, with red panelling laid between them and the silver-white stripes running through. It is the busiest section of the saree, and deliberately so — after the length of the body, the pallu is where everything gathers and resolves. Because the black base carries through from the body into the pallu, the saree reads as one continuous piece rather than two halves stitched in feeling. It balances rather than competes. The saree comes with a contrasting red blouse piece.
Border Details: The border is solid red, unbroken, running the full length of the saree along both the top and bottom edge. There is no zari and no ornament in it — and that restraint is the reason the saree works. The body is dense with ikat motifs, stripes and colour. If the border had carried work too, the whole saree would have gone noisy. Instead, the plain red acts as a frame: it contains the pattern, gives the eye a resting place, and makes the black look deeper by contrast. Look closely at where the red meets the black and you'll see the edge is slightly feathered rather than sharp. That soft, stepped transition is the signature of true ikat, and it can't be printed.
Special Techniques: Ikat is the only weaving tradition in the world where the pattern is finished before a single thread is put on the loom. The silk. Pure mulberry silk, carrying the Silk Mark — the Central Silk Board's certification of 100% natural silk. Mulberry is used here for a reason: it takes dye deeply and evenly, which matters enormously when the dye itself is doing the drawing. Tying and dyeing. The yarn is first stretched out and measured against a full-scale graph of the design. The weaver then works out exactly which segment of which thread must be which colour — the mustard fish here, the blue fish there, the red diamond in between. Those segments are tightly bound with thread or rubber so the dye cannot reach them. The bundle goes into a dye bath. Then the bindings are cut, new sections tied, and it goes into the next colour. Every additional colour means another full round of tying, dyeing and drying. On a saree with mustard, royal blue, red and white, that is several complete cycles before weaving even begins. Weaving. The dyed yarn is loaded onto the loom in exact sequence, and the weaver's job is to line up the pre-dyed segments so the motifs land where they should. This is done by hand, constantly, adjusting the tension thread by thread. If the alignment drifts even slightly, a fish comes out stretched or a stripe wanders. Why the edges are soft. That characteristic feathering around every motif is the small, unavoidable movement of the yarn during weaving. It is not a flaw — it is the proof of hand-dyed, hand-woven ikat, and it is the one thing a printed imitation cannot fake. The result is that no two ikat sarees are ever truly identical, and the design exists in the thread itself rather than on the surface of the cloth.
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture."

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
