Jamdani Inlay Technique: Colorful motifs are created using the discontinuous supplementary weft method - artisans manually insert colored resham threads only where designs appear, using small bamboo sticks or bobbins during the weaving process itself.
Manual Thread Counting: Weavers count individual threads to precisely position each buti and pattern, following traditional graph designs passed down through generations.
Two-Weaver Coordination: Master weavers work in pairs, one handling the base tussar weaving while both collaborate on the intricate supplementary weft inlay work to create the Jamdani patterns.
The motifs on the body, the borders, and the pallu are all done in the jamdani weaving technique. Jamdani is one of the oldest and most respected hand-weaving traditions in India, where the pattern threads are inserted by hand on the loom while the base fabric is being woven. There is no embroidery, no print, no machine, just the weaver, the loom, and a lot of patience. Each motif is built thread by thread, which is why no two jamdani sarees ever look exactly alike.
