“Handloom sarees are woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. The minor variations in weave are the artisan's signature — proof that no other saree in the world is exactly this one.”

Color: Ivory, Maroon and Green
Silk Type: Mulberry
Loom Type: Handloom
Purity: Silk mark certified
Blouse Piece: Included
Motifs/Patterns: Ivory, deep maroon, bottle green, gold. This is not a palette someone designed last season — it is the colour language of South Indian temple silk, and it has been considered auspicious for as long as these looms have existed. The ivory is warm rather than stark, carrying a soft golden undertone that makes the zari glow instead of glare. The maroon is rich and grounding. The bottle green sits along the edge, cool and deep, and does the hardest job of all — it keeps the maroon and the gold from shouting at each other. Take the green away and the saree loses its balance. The feel is pure Kanchipuram. Mulberry silk with genuine weight and body, a natural lustre that comes from the fibre rather than any finish, and a fall that holds deep sculptural pleats. The tested silk-based zari adds to that glow — real metal wound on a silk core catches light softly and shifts as you move, rather than sitting flat on the surface. This is wedding silk and puja silk in the truest sense. It belongs at your own wedding functions and at everyone else's, at Durga Puja and the festival season around it, at temple visits and house pujas, at receptions and formal family gatherings. If you're choosing one saree this season that carries weight, meaning and tradition all at once, this is the look. The body is ivory, and it is a statement piece rather than a quiet backdrop. Fine gold zari runs through it in woven stripes and delicate patterned bands along the entire length — this is real weaving, not a single plain band laid across the fabric. The design has structure and rhythm to it, and you can read the technique in the surface: the way the zari catches light in sequence, the way the ivory shifts between warm and luminous depending on how the drape falls. That warm ivory ground is also what makes everything else work. It's not a cold white — there's gold sitting inside the colour before a single zari thread is added, which is why the maroon looks rich against it rather than harsh, and why the gold reads as gold rather than yellow. The pallu is deep maroon, and it is artistry in itself. It is worked heavily in gold zari — dense ornamental bands, temple spires at full scale, and the annapakshi returning larger and in far greater detail than in the border. Very little of the maroon base is left uncovered. This is where the weaver spends the most time and the most zari, and you feel the difference in weight the moment you lift it. The shift from the light ivory body into this deep, gold-loaded maroon is the whole drama of the saree. Thrown over the shoulder, the pallu is what people see first and remember afterwards. The saree comes with an attached blouse piece.
Border Details: The border is where this saree announces itself, and it is built in layers rather than as one flat band. It opens at the outer edge in bottle green, and within that green section the annapakshi — the mythical swan of South Indian temple art — is woven in gold zari, repeating along the full length. From there the border deepens into maroon, a solid band of gold zari runs through, and finally the temple design begins, its gold spires stepping inward to meet the ivory body. Green, then annapakshi, then maroon, then zari band, then temple spires. Four distinct elements in one border, running along both the top and bottom of the saree. This is not a border you glance at once — it rewards close looking, and it is the reason the saree reads as heirloom rather than merely festive.
Special Techniques: A Kanchipuram is not one piece of fabric. It is three, joined by hand while still on the loom, and that is the whole reason it costs what it costs. The silk. Pure mulberry silk, carrying the Silk Mark — the Central Silk Board's certification of 100% natural silk. Kanchipuram uses a heavier multi-ply yarn, several filaments twisted together into one thicker thread, which is where the weight, the fall, the natural lustre and the forty-year lifespan all come from. The zari. Tested zari, silk-based — a fine metallic wire drawn out, flattened, and wound tightly around a silk core thread. Picture a ribbon wrapped around a pencil, at a scale you'd need a magnifier to see the turns. Not the flat plastic film used in imitation work. Real metal zari glows from inside the weave and shifts with the light; imitation glitters hard and flat from every angle. On a saree built around gold against ivory, that difference is everything. Korvai — the contrast border. The ivory body and the green-and-maroon border are woven from separate warps in different colours. Where they meet, the weaver interlocks the threads by hand, one against the next, down the entire length of the saree. This needs three shuttles working together and, traditionally, two people at the loom. The proof of a true korvai is the join itself — run your finger along it and you'll feel a fine ridge. That ridge is a genuine seam of interlocked silk, not a border printed or woven flat into a single fabric. Petni — the contrast pallu. The join between the ivory body and the maroon pallu is done differently, and it is the slowest part of the whole saree. Each ivory warp thread is individually knotted or twisted onto a maroon warp thread — thousands of joins, made one at a time, by hand, before weaving can continue. It cannot be replicated on a power loom. The motifs. The annapakshi and the temple spires are woven in as extra weft, built row by row, with the weaver counting warp threads and stepping the gold in or out on every pick until the shape emerges. A single miscount leaves a crooked spire, and once beaten down it is permanent.
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture.

We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
