Motifs/Patterns: The base is classic tussar — that warm, natural beige the silk comes out of the cocoon with. Against it, kantha threadwork runs in a considered mix of black, deep brown and dual-shaded blue-grey, all worked in fine running stitches that build up into swirling paisleys, florals, and border patterns.
The feel is exactly what you'd expect from tussar with kantha on top: dry, textured silk with a natural sheen, and a slightly raised, hand-stitched surface where the thread sits. It has real weight from the density of the stitching, but it never feels stiff — it's still a saree you can wear for a full day.
This is one of the most versatile pieces you can own, because kantha work reads as considered rather than dressed-up. It moves easily between auspicious occasions and pujas, and into everyday territory too — office if you wear sarees to work, low-key parties, family lunches and gatherings. Very few sarees can do formal and casual with equal ease. This one genuinely can, because the craft itself carries enough weight that it never looks underdressed, and the natural tussar ground keeps it from ever looking overdressed either.
The body carries lata work — the flowing creeper-and-vine motif — running end to end across the full length, worked entirely in the traditional running stitches that define kantha.
What's notable here is restraint alongside density. There is a great deal of stitching across the body, and yet it never overwhelms the tussar ground beneath it — the natural beige keeps showing through between the vine work, so the saree reads as detailed rather than heavy. That balance is difficult to get right, and it's the reason the design still stands out clearly even with this much handwork covering it.
Every line of that vine motif was placed by hand, one small stitch at a time, and you can feel that unevenness under your fingers — it's the mark of genuine kantha, not a machine repeat.
The pallu is the masterpiece of the saree.
It carries the most elaborate work of anywhere on the piece — layered borders of paisley and floral motifs framing dense vertical bands of running-stitch pattern, building toward a large, fully worked panel at the very end. Every element found elsewhere on the saree — the paisleys from the border, the vine work from the body — reappears here at greater scale and density.
It is, quite simply, where all the labour on the saree concentrates. Thrown over the shoulder, it is the section that draws the eye first and holds it longest.

Border Details: The border runs along both the top and bottom of the saree, dense with kantha stitching built up into intricate floral and paisley work.
The colour story here is deliberate: black, a navy-grey blend, and a maroon-brown blend are the dominant threads, layered together so the border reads as richly toned rather than as any single flat colour. Within that, individual motifs — paisleys, florets, scrolling vines — are picked out in the contrasting shades, giving the border real depth up close.
Against the plain tussar body, this concentration of colour and stitchwork stands out clearly, giving the saree its frame and its formal edge.
Special Techniques: Pure tussar — wild silk from moths that feed on forest trees rather than farmed mulberry, which is why the base carries its natural golden-beige colour and a soft slub texture without any dye. The saree is Silk Mark certified by the Central Silk Board, guaranteeing 100% natural silk.
Kantha stitch. Kantha is a running stitch — one of the simplest stitches in hand embroidery, and one of the hardest to master at this scale. A single needle carries the coloured thread through the cloth in short, even stitches, building up line by line into the swirling motifs you see in the border and body. There is no machine involved and no printed guideline beneath it; the artisan works from a traced or freehand outline and fills it stitch by stitch. The slight irregularity in the spacing — visible if you look closely — is not a flaw. It's the signature of hand kantha, and it's exactly what a machine embroidery cannot replicate.
The density. What separates this saree from a simple kantha piece is coverage: the lata work runs the full body, the border is densely worked in three tonal blends, and the pallu carries the heaviest concentration of all. Multiply the running-stitch technique across that much surface area, in four to five colours, and you're looking at weeks of stitching by hand before the saree is finished.

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting.
